Here is the question and answer you selected:
QUESTION:
Should I submit to paid search engines and directories?
ANSWER:
Google is arguably the biggest and most popular search engine, and in fact, Yahoo! themselves use the Google engine to deliver results outside of their own directory system. With DomainIt's site submit, you are automatically submitted to Google. However, you may still want to consider submitting to Yahoo! and other paid directories, but it is not a necessity.
Yahoo! has recently introduced a 'pay for review' system whereby owners of commercial web sites must pay for a listing on Yahoo! The cost to have your site reviewed is $299 per year and you are NOT guaranteed that your site will be listed. You can find more information here.
While many other search engines have paid for inclusion services, they still offer free submissions (albeit the lead time in getting listed is a bit slower). Some of these engines that offer pay for inclusion programs include:
AltaVista's Express Inclusion
Inktomi (which provides results to MSN, AOL, and more)
Looksmart
Ask Jeeves/Teoma
Excite - Express paid inclusion to excite.
