That's right! To your average web site visitor, they look the same. However, the second (encoded) address really looks like this in the html and to the average spam robot:

Use the encoded data to replace your regular email address anywhere it appears on your web site. The majority of web browsers will display the actual email address thus your visitors will not know any difference whatsoever. However the majority of spam robots will not recognise it and move on.
This isn't going to stop all the robots because some will go the extra length to decode it. It will stop the majority of spam robots though, and that has to be a good thing!
